After a national search, the Southeastern Council of Foundations has tapped Michael Howland, a veteran of the nonprofit sector, as its new president and CEO.
He will assume his duties in August, succeeding Martin Lehfeldt, who has led the council since 1998 and will stay on as a senior advisor until he retires at the end of the year.
Howland currently is CEO of Noble of Indiana, a $12 million community organization that serves 2,200 people with developmental disabilities.
He has worked for the Indianapolis-based organization since 2002, and previously was CEO of Christian Service Charities in Springfield, Va., a group that raises funds for 162 national charities.
The Southeastern Council of Foundations, based in Atlanta, is a membership association of grantmaking foundations and giving programs that promotes new resources and excellence in philanthropy.
The council includes more than 360 grantmaking organizations in 11 states that manage managing a combined $30 billion in assets.
